Meet Dr. Glenn Gibson
From Chef to Chiropractor
Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Gibson was a chef for 20 years. In his mid-30s, he went back to school while finishing up his culinary career, and earned a degree in exercise science.
He then launched a personal training business in Tampa, but the financial downturn of 2008 happened, and Dr. Gibson realized he needed to make a change, even though he loved what he did. At the same time, he was training for a powerlifting meet for the Florida State Games. “I injured myself and I was at my chiropractor’s office, and the light bulb just turned on loud and bright over my head.”
After getting great results at the chiropractor’s office, Dr. Gibson knew then that he would become a chiropractor, which would allow him to help people even more. With his education in exercise science and experience as a personal trainer, he was able to bring that knowledge and skills to chiropractic college.
Chiropractic Education & Certifications
At 39, he enrolled at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. “Everybody told me I was too long in the tooth and that it was a huge mistake. But, it was the best thing I could’ve ever done!”
In addition to his Doctor of Chiropractic from Logan. Dr. Gibson also has a master’s degree in nutrition and human performance, and a bachelor’s in exercise science. Additionally, Dr. Gibson has training or certifications in the following:
- Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization – certificated in Modules A and B
- Functional Movement Screening (an injury predictor)
- Myofascial Release (helps break up adhesions)
- Selective Functional Movement Assessment (helps determine what’s wrong)
‘Treat Every Patient like a Puzzle’
One of his instructors at Logan was an outstanding sports chiropractor who worked with the St. Louis Cardinals. “Many major league pitchers come to this man because he’s brilliant. The instructor turned to us as a class and said, ‘Treat every patient you see as a puzzle that needs to be solved and work with them to solve it. That’s how you’ll have a fruitful career.’”
Dr. Gibson recalls the instructor saying not to be like a doc in a box. He told the class that if all they do is be a doc in a box where it’s simply adjust, repeat, adjust, repeat, it’s likely you’ll burnout. You’ll have all kinds of shoulder injuries, and your results will be minimal at best.
That instructor’s words have stuck with Dr. Gibson all these years later and he has a steadfast commitment to solving his patients’ unique health challenges.
EXPLORE CHIROPRACTIC
Outside the Practice
When he’s not caring for patients’ spines, Dr. Gibson enjoys being with Kelly, his high school sweetheart. They like spending time with their dog Avery, a pit bull. He and Kelly also like to cook. She’s an artist, and Dr. Gibson plays the drums.
Living in the Hudson Valley, they enjoy listening to local music. The couple also loves spending time outdoors, whether doing yard work or hanging out by their fire pit. They also love to eat and enjoy the farm to table dining scene. Going to the local fair is another favorite activity of theirs.
